【千駄ヶ谷スタッフ】魅力溢れるラタンファニチャー

Hello everyone!

This is Motoka from cerote antiques.

How are you doing during this hot and humid summer?

By the way, have you decided what you want to do this summer?

As for me, for several years now I have been advocating the theory that Okinawa pineapple juice is the most delicious, that "if you want to drink pineapple juice in the summer, Okinawa is the best place," and I was determined to do so this year, but the other day I realized that pineapple juice is delicious no matter where you drink it, and now I'm not sure what to do this summer.

Now, on a different note, summer is hot!

I've forced the connection a bit, but today I'd like to talk about furniture made from rattan, a cool material that is perfect for summer.

Please stay with us until the end!

First, what is rattan? Rattan is a palm plant that grows naturally in the rainforests, subtropical and tropical jungles, mainly in Southeast Asia. It is the longest plant in history and is an incredibly hardy plant.

They wrap around other trees, and some are apparently as long as 200 meters.

It grows faster than normal trees, and processing is done by hand with little use of machinery, so it is known as an eco-friendly material that puts little strain on the environment.

Rattan looks cool just by looking at it, but it is also highly breathable and moisture-absorbent, making it a perfect item for summer.

In addition, it releases absorbed moisture in winter and even helps dry out the fabric, making it suitable for use all year round.

Another great point about rattan furniture is that it is lighter than other wooden furniture, making it easier to handle when cleaning or rearranging.

Rattan furniture is also highly durable, so maintaining it is not difficult at all. All you need to do is wipe it down with a soft cloth and remove any dust that has accumulated in the gaps with a cotton swab or brush.

Rattan is a very attractive material, so let's take a look at some actual items!

Vintage Rattan Open Shelf

First up is this shelf that combines rattan and glass.

The smooth curves are beautiful and the deep, calm colors give it a luxurious appearance.

The shelves are made of glass, giving the whole design a translucent look, so even when mounted against a wall it doesn't feel oppressive.

In addition, it looks beautiful from any angle, so you can place it in the middle of a room and it can also serve as a decorative shelf and partition!

Next, we would like to introduce this counter and counter chairs.

After all, if you use the same material, it creates a unified look and makes it look better.

Vintage rattan counter chair

This chair features curves in the rattan frame, which can be seen throughout the chair, including the backrest, and its design makes use of the characteristics of rattan, which makes it easy to work with.

The rounded backrest flexes just enough to accommodate the load, making it less likely to cause back pain and providing a more comfortable seating experience than it looks.

Another great feature is that the carefully woven seat is highly breathable and doesn't get stuffy even in the summer.

Rattan Counter Vintage

This unit is extremely practical, with two drawers, two open spaces, and shelves on both sides.

The appearance strongly conveys the warmth of natural materials and the unique texture of rattan.

The design is oval-like and has no corners, making it easy for families with small children to incorporate into their home.

It can be used at home, of course, but it can also be used in a variety of ways, such as as a bar counter or a cash register in a second-hand clothing store!

The three items we have introduced are on display and for sale at Cerote Antiques, so if you're interested, please come and visit us in store.

If you live far away and cannot visit our store, you can also purchase from our online shop, so if you have any questions about the items, please feel free to contact us by email or phone.

Some of the rattan items shown in the thumbnail are on display and for sale at our sister store, Bob's Box, located about a 10-minute walk from Sendagaya Cerote Antiques towards Harajuku.

If you are visiting Sendagaya, be sure to check out b ob's box as well.

What did you think?

Some people may have the image that rattan is a little "old-fashioned."

It's like something you'd find in an old house or grandma's house...

But that just goes to show that it has been loved for so long and is durable enough to be used for a long time!

Today we introduced rattan, a material that is light, flexible, easy to handle, durable, and environmentally friendly.

Why not try welcoming one into your room?
