【千駄ヶ谷店スタッフ】モロッコラグの魅力について

Hey everyone, it’s been a while!

This is Nakamura from the Sendagaya store staff!

These days, the weather is getting closer to autumn and the scent of osmanthus is approaching.

This is my first blog in 3 months, and it seems like ``Ross Nakamura'' has caused a stir in the world💦

Sorry to keep you waiting!

This time, we would like to introduce you to the newly arrived Moroccan rugs!

In recent years, Moroccan rugs have been attracting attention as an essential item for the "Moroccan style" that has become popular as an interior style in Europe.

If you are interested in interior design, I'm sure you've heard or seen it at least once 👀

Moroccan interiors are a mix of diverse cultures and tastes unique to the country, such as a sophisticated atmosphere influenced by the French colonial era, a primitive atmosphere due to the culture of the African continent, and an exotic atmosphere due to the culture of the Islamic world. Masu.

Influenced by diverse cultures, hand-woven Moroccan rugs are made with plenty of high-quality wool, and come in a variety of different characteristics depending on the lifestyle, color scheme, and meaning of the geometric patterns of each tribe. I'm here!

Among them, we would like to introduce two types of rugs that have arrived at SHARK ATTACK!

1. Beni Ouaren

Beniwaren is a rare wool rug woven in the area called Beniwaren by the Berber people, an indigenous tribe of Morocco and nomads living in the mountainous region.

The famous Alvar Aalto also used Beniwaren in his residence.
Originally for the nomadic lifestyle of nomads. These stories of being used as dowries for Moroccan women may be one reason why we feel calm.

At first glance, it may seem flashy and difficult to incorporate.
The color and feel of unbleached wool. The natural gentleness of the hair, which is hand-crafted with uneven thickness and color, is strangely calming.

2.AZILAL RUG

Ajiral is a rug woven in the Ajiral region of Morocco. Ajiral is hand-woven using high-quality wool, so each piece is unique. Designed using cotton and wool dyed with natural dyes, it feels good to the touch and has a high quality feel.

Its characteristics are that it has a shorter pile than Beniwaren, and many have a unique design.
One of the points is that many colors are used, and characteristic geometric patterns and hieroglyphics are drawn on them.

The wool is often cream-colored or white, and the natural colors and combinations give this Moroccan artisanal gem its authenticity. The meaning of the patterns decorating the rug may represent the femininity of Berber women and the history and traditions of the tribe.

The above is a simple introduction to the charm of Moroccan rugs!

Please come and visit our Sendagaya store to bring home a cute rug made of high-quality wool that will become more flavorful as you use it!

A small fact to know is that Moroccan rugs are hand-woven by a woman who is about to get married, taking a few months to a year to weave them.

Nakamura is also thinking about starting the preparations to knit it soon.

See you next time for “Moroccan rug as a Christmas present?”
