Ceramic artist living in Finland David da Silva
Many of his works feature horses as a motif, and their expressions are striking, possessing a somewhat simple yet strong and gentle nature.
Within the quietness typical of Scandinavia, it exudes a primitive strength and the warmth that can only be achieved through handwork.

He explained how he got started building horses:

A few years ago, while visiting an antique fair outside Helsinki, I fell in love with a small metal horse at first sight and bought it without hesitation.
The horse was staring at me from the window. A few months later, I started making coiled clay vases , then tried and failed many times to make a clay horse I had bought.
In the process, my love for both pottery and horses grew stronger.

Colours, shapes and textures are often inspired by nature and the things around us, as well as the shapes and forms of modern architecture.
Pottery is satisfying, calming and therapeutic.
It's also a good way to bring out the hidden imagination within you.
To me, horses represent strength, stamina and beauty.
