Founded in 1964 by Otto Gerhartz, this pottery factory in Rheinbach, Germany, was one of the most influential manufacturers during the pottery boom and Fat Lava craze of the 1960s and 1970s.
Otto served as production director for Ruscha, a representative brand of Fat Lava, and invented various glazes. After becoming independent, Otto Keramik started from his home atelier.
All of the glazes used in the factory from its founding until 1978 were invented by Gerhartz.
The expressive colors and textures created by his carefully crafted glazes are still beloved by collectors around the world, and the company is currently run by his son, who has carried on his legacy.

Today, they are one of the few manufacturers of artistic ceramics that are still made with meticulous handcrafting and push the boundaries of glazes, colors and textures.
