Flower vase made by Otto Keramik, Germany
[Otto Keramik]
A pottery manufacturer in Rheinbach, Germany, founded in 1964 by Otto Gerhartz.
He served as production director for Ruscha, a pottery manufacturer that enjoyed enormous influence during the pottery boom of the 1950s, and invented a variety of glazes.
After becoming independent, Otto Keramik started out in his home studio.
All of the glazes used in the factory from its founding until 1978 were invented by Gerhartz.
The expressive colors and textures created by his carefully crafted glazes are still beloved by collectors around the world, and the company is currently run by his son, who has carried on his legacy.
Of the manufacturers that led Germany's pottery boom, it is one of the few that still remains.
