Description
An impressive wooden object made from rotten wood
The curved, sharp design gives movement to the space, tightening it up and creating a sharp atmosphere.
This object, which evokes the power of nature, matches Japanese and Western-style rooms, natural-style rooms, living rooms, entryways, and desk areas, making the atmosphere of the room even more luxurious.
[Wooden Artist/ Rentaro Arakawa]
A wooden lacquer artist with a studio in Akishima.
A vase made of decayed wood for hanging flowers that I have been collecting since my teenage years.
A free-standing flower vase made from decaying mulberry wood that was given to me by a gardener several decades ago.
The muddy roots of decadent trees are dried over a long period of time, then painstakingly carved out and coated with lacquer to create objects.
His works mainly involve infusing rotten wood that he has collected himself with images, reconstructing it, and then applying lacquer to give it strength, bringing it back to life as a tool.
He started woodworking on his own in 2012, and after that, he came across some worn out lacquerware at an art museum, and was inspired by the beauty of the crafts that were created by people in the course of their daily lives, which led him to start working with lacquerware. Since then, he has been active mainly in galleries and craft fairs in Tokyo.
