Christian Dell was a silversmith and designer born in Offenbach am Main, Hesse, Germany in 1893.
Dell began designing lighting for the Neheimhüsten lamp factory Gebr. Kaiser & Co. in early 1926. His signature work, the Kaiser-Idell series, was featured in the Kaiser catalogue published in 1936 and quickly became a popular item.
The name Kaiser Idel comes from Kaiser, the name of the original lamp manufacturer, and Idel, Del's own name and idea.
