Josef Emons and Jean Fuss founded Fuss & Emons in 1921.
Financial problems caused by the war and then as the economy began to recover the company split in two, ES Keramik under Josef Emons and Marei under Jean Fuss.

Around 1954, the company began producing highly designed ceramics such as Fat lava, and until production ceased in 1974, Willi Hack was the main designer and released a number of products.
