【大阪スタッフ】Fat Lava あれこれ<PART2>

It has been a while!

This is Kanaoka from the Osaka store staff :)

Today, I will be talking about Part 2 of “FatLava” that Yamada-san talked about last time!

First of all, what is D&B?

Dümler & Breiden 】1883-1992

Founded in Heel-Grenzhausen in 1883 by Peter Dumler and his brother-in-law Albert Bryden. Until the first half of the 20th century, the company manufactured traditional pottery such as beer mugs and punch bowls, but with the pottery boom of the 1950s and 1960s, it once again grew and made its presence felt.

In the late 1960s , he developed a copper-colored glaze that was easily recognizable. Combinations with beige tones and foamy dripping Fat Lava glazes are often used.

Using white clay, he produced a variety of high-quality shapes and glazes in quirky styles and colors.

Introducing two items from Dümler & Breiden.

The cross sword logo used until the mid-1970s is engraved on the bottom, and the glaze is bubbly and beige in color. Based on these characteristics, it can be assumed that this item was made from the late 1960s to the mid-1970s.

This item embodies the unique and quirky style that is one of Dümler & Breiden's hallmarks.

The label has the same crossed sword logo as before! Although it has been cut off, the letters HÖHR can be seen on the paper label, so it is thought to be from the late 1960s to late 1970s.

The pale blue with gold details, and the slim and soft curves give you a sense of high quality.

Next,

[ Scheurich ] 1954-

Founded in 1927 by Alois Schulich, it sold a wide range of affordable ceramics, glass ornaments, and household items.

After a co-manager joined the company, it became known as Schulich & Greulich, and many of the works from this time are labeled with the "S&G" label. As his business expanded, Schulich decided to produce his own pottery and opened a factory in Kleinheubach in 1954.

Scheurich grew rapidly and from the 1950s to the 1980s became Germany's largest manufacturer of ceramics, a position it maintains today.

At the time, Scheurich products had the widest range of shapes and glazes, and they were exported the most, so Scheurich products can still be seen today.

Introducing two items from Scheurich!

In a small and cute form,

This item has a modern feel with its gray, blue, and yellow colors.

Another feature of Scheurich is that it is possible to precisely determine the age using the label.

This is Schulich Labels (1963-1969)

"Scheurich europ linie" was introduced in 1963 and was probably used until 1969, when Franz Karl was artistic director of the company. During this period, labels will have 7 different fonts.

Among them, this label has no loops on both "h"s and has "S" hooks, so it is presumed to be from 1966-1969. (The image below has the same characteristics.)

This is a distinctive combination of red, dark brown and beige.

This one has the words "scheurich-KERAMIK 523-18 W.GERAMANY" on the bottom. scheurich-KERAMIK ×××-×× W.GERAMANY is a mark used around 1970-1985😊

It has a simple shape based on the cylindrical shape that is often seen in Scheurich, and colors such as red, cream, beige, and brown are used.

In fact, the four colors of red, orange, cream, beige, and brown were the popular colors of the time!

That's one of the reasons why it's so common in pottery from this era :)

The four items introduced this time are not yet sold at the online store, but

All four items are available in stores, so if you would like to purchase them, please contact our Osaka store 📞
