【大和店スタッフ】奥深いトライバルラグの世界

Hello everyone, this is Ito.

The harsh winter is finally over, and the cherry blossoms on the road leading to the Yamato store are in full bloom.

With the arrival of warm spring days, a container flight from Europe has arrived.
Today we would like to introduce you to the vintage rugs of which we have received over 200 pieces.

I studied textiles at a school in Europe,
Since I have my roots in Haebaru City, Okinawa Prefecture, the birthplace of Ryukyu Kasuri, I have always been interested in the culture of fabrics and weaving.

Incorporating colors found in nature into threads,
The pattern created by carefully weaving from side to side has a unique sense of the world, giving a sense of depth even though it is flat.
It incorporates the atmosphere and culture of the area.

Among them, vintage rugs from Eurasia and Africa,
The newly arrived ``tribal rugs'' were originally woven by nomads living in the desert for their own use and used as tools for daily life.

Like us, these people did not live in one place, so they expressed their identity by weaving tribal patterns into easily portable rugs.

The rugs, which have been deeply rooted in the lives of people living in a climate and climate different from Japan, have an exotic charm reminiscent of saffron spice and desert sunsets, even though the red is red.
The rich colors add color to the space.

This time, we will introduce some of the products listed on the web page, including their stories.
I would like to introduce some of the things I picked up.

Torquement rival rug 1630×930 Vintage Yamato store (sharkattack.jp)
Rugs woven by Turkmen tribes who migrate to Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Iran, Iraq, and Afghanistan.

It is characterized by the repeated family crests of tribes called Gyuru along the central vertical line.

A piece with beautiful lines of bright vermilion red and indigo blue, and the luster of the wool that has softened over time.
It is made with great attention to detail, including finely woven and delicate patterns.

Ersari
A rug woven by the Ersari tribe in northern Afghanistan, which borders Turkmenistan.
A beautiful piece of red that combines transparency and depth with a large guru pattern.
It is large and durable, and gives a sense of fluctuation as a surface.

Caucasus Tribal Rug 1400×730 Vintage Yamato Store (sharkattack.jp)
The exact tribe is unknown, but it is thought to be a rug from the Caucasus region such as Georgia, Armenia, or Azerbaijan.

The central motif is a stylized version of the sun pattern that has been passed down in the Caucasus region, and there are also many other religious motifs from various regions, such as the Western cross pattern and the eight-pointed star called Yilduz, which explains the differences between tribes. It is also possible that this rug was created through cultural exchange.

The easy-going and rough impression is not too heavy, so you can feel free to use it at home.

Turkish KilimKilim refers to short pile wool fabric.
Kilims and pile rugs are woven with various patterns, and many of them are characterized by deformed motifs of animals, plants, and nature.

This kilim has some traditional Turkish kilim patterns,
Inside the central diamond is El Palmac (finger/comb), which means a prayer for prosperity.
There are many auspicious motifs on the edges, such as kush (bird feathers), which are a sign of good luck, making it a great choice for living rooms where you can spend time with your family.

Player Rug Tribal Rug 1260×800 Vintage Sendagaya Store (sharkattack.jp)
A player rug that was used for prayers in the Middle East, an Islamic cultural area.
Generally, there are many simple convex arch patterns, but this design is reminiscent of a mosque temple.

The bright red color is eye-catching and can also be used as a tapestry.

If you dig deeper into each of these, you will find that they have a truly diverse cultural background.

There are many patterns with various meanings that an amateur like me cannot decipher.
The thoughts of the women who are the weavers may also be hidden there.

It would be interesting to know the story and try incorporating it into the interior.

In addition to the items we introduced today, we have hundreds of other rugs in stock at the Yamato store.

Please come and meet your favorite one.
