This piece has an iron-like texture and is made by firing it with a glaze made from ashes from Sakurajima, Kagoshima Prefecture, where the ONE KILN CERAMICS workshop is located.
The company is committed to making its products in Kagoshima, and one of the things it focused on was the volcanic ash provided by its symbol, Sakurajima. The amount of ash to add, the temperature at which it is fired, and other aspects of the series were all the culmination of years of trial and error. The individual colors vary depending on the position in the kiln and the chemical reactions of the glaze. Finding the texture that suits you is one of the joys of the series, but the way this glaze changes over time is also fascinating. The more you use it every day, the more character it acquires, and it will become a one-of-a-kind tool.
