50's-60's Denmark "Hans J. Wegner" GE265 Armchair
Hans J. Wegner is one of the most famous Danish furniture designers of the 20th century, and is also known as the "master of chairs." The armchair "GE265," designed by him and manufactured by the Danish furniture manufacturer GETAMA, features a simple yet elegant design that is typical of Wegner. The entire design is based on ergonomics, and is said to be very comfortable to sit on.
Getama is a Danish furniture manufacturer founded in 1900 that has collaborated with Wegner to produce many masterpieces. The GE265 is a particularly popular model and is still highly valued in the vintage market today.
The appeal of this chair is that its minimalist design, unique to Scandinavian modern, blends in with a variety of interior styles. It blends naturally into mid-century modern spaces as well as contemporary interiors. In addition, its simple and timeless design will not fade over the years. The GE265, which combines practicality and beauty, is not just good-looking, but a special piece of furniture that will make your daily life more comfortable.
Hans J Wegner
Born in Tønder, Denmark in 1914.
He began his training under a furniture maker at the age of 13, and qualified as a joiner at the age of 17. After studying furniture design at the School of Arts and Crafts, he worked at Arne Jacobsen's office. He went independent in 1943 and is known worldwide as a master of chairs, having designed over 500 chairs to date.
Around 1950, he released the Y Chair, The Chair, Papa Bear Chair, and Flag Halyard Chair. Each of these chairs was produced by a different manufacturer at the time, and the fact that they were designed taking into account the characteristics of each manufacturer demonstrated Wegner's skill.
He is a furniture designer who continues to explore the fusion of aesthetic beauty and ergonomic comfort for people to use.
