Beautifully curved bowls that have shaped Japan's food culture
[TSUMUGI]
Bowls have woven the fabric of Japanese food culture. Each shape has a name that has been passed down since ancient times. Their beautiful curves add a new touch to dinner moments that have been passed down through the ages.
It represents the shape of a lily flower. It means a beautiful woman, based on the proverb "When she stands she is like a peony, when she sits she is like a peony, when she walks she is like a lily flower."
Gato Mikio Shoten / Lacquerware (Ishikawa Prefecture)
Founded in 1908 as Gato Woodworks in Yamanaka Onsen, a town famous for its pottery turning. Carving out the will of woodworkers, the beautiful grain of natural materials and the perfection of each piece of wood carefully carved by woodworkers are truly works of art.
