Amsterdam chair with a sophisticated and beautiful design
The Amsterdam chair (commonly known as the Tonneau chair) was designed by French furniture designer Pierre Guariche in 1953.
This chair is one of Garish's representative works, which he released when he was around 30 years old, and it strongly reflects his philosophy of "practical and beautiful furniture that is accessible to everyone."
The name of this chair, "Tonneau," means "barrel" in French, and comes from the barrel-like shape of the shell, where the back and seat are continuous.
Production of the Tonneau Chair ceased at the end of the 1950s, but it was sold for a limited time by the French company Maison du Monde, which was founded in 1996. This chair was manufactured during that period.
Since the 2000s, Maison du Monde has been selling full-scale reproductions of the Amsterdam Chair, and in 2013 it reproduced 13 types of Garnish furniture, reviving its appeal in the modern era.
[Pierre Guariche]
Pierre Garrish (1926-1995) was a French designer, interior decorator and architect.
After studying under René Gabriel at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, he joined Marcel Gascoin's studio.
He established his own studio in 1951 and soon produced numerous works in collaboration with a number of companies, including Airborne, Galerie Mai, Steiner, Les Huchers Minvielles, Meurop and Disderot.
In 1965, he was responsible for the interior design of Le Corbusier's Firminy Cultural Center, as well as the La Plagne ski resort in Savoie.
Not only can it be used at home, but it can also be used as fixtures in offices and stores.
